I. Recommendation

 

It is recommended that the General Superintendent and CEO or his designee enter into a contract with Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, Inc. for the construction of the new artificial turf field at Park 580 “Read-Dunning”.  No work may commence and no payment shall be made to vendor prior to the execution of a written agreement.

Contract Term:                     Upon execution of agreement, termination on December 31, 2027.

 

Contract Amount:                     $1,200,000.00 ($500,000.00 from Chicago Park District Capital Program)

 

Scope of Services:                     Construction of a new multi-use artificial turf field for senior baseball, soccer, lacrosse and football including sports lighting, new parking area with lighting, scoreboard, concrete central plaza - with bleachers, walking paths, berm viewing areas, new utilities and sewer, and landscaping.  The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, Inc. shall serve as the general contractor for the construction of the artificial turf field, with the balance the project to be constructed by Chicago Park District. The new park will be programmed heavily by local community little leagues, elementary sports, and high school sports including the new Chicago Public School programmed  to the south of Park 580 (opening in 2019).

                     The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, Inc. (CRSF) teaches critical life lessons to at-risk young people through sports-themed programs and through creating safe places to learn, play, and grow. Since 2010, the CRSF has completed 70 75 Youth Development Parks (with new artificial turf fields) in over 20 states.  CRSF’s goal is to complete 90 Youth Development Parks by 2018 and 100 by the end of 2019.  In 2015, the Chicago Park District partnered with CRSF to construct the Freedom Field Youth Development Park in Marquette Park.

                     Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation partners with local communities and private funders to develop projects. CRSF donors are contributing $200,000 toward the field construction with other private funding commitments from Chicago Cubs Charities ($250,000) and other private donors ($250,000). Chicago Park District will fund $500,000 of the project.

Authorization:                     Authorize the General Counsel to include other relevant terms and conditions in the written Agreement. Authorize the General Superintendent to execute the Agreement and the Secretary to attest as to the signing of the Agreement and keep an original copy of the Agreement on file.
