RESOLUTION HONORING COMMISSIONER JUAN SALGADO FOR HIS YEARS OF SERVICE

of the Chicago Park District, Illinois

WHEREAS, Juan Salgado was appointed a Commissioner of the Chicago Park District Board in 2011 by Mayor Rahm Emanuel; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Salgado has taken on the additional responsibility of representing the Park District on the boards of the Grant Park Music Festival and the Museum of Science and Industry; and
WHEREAS, since 2001 Commissioner Salgado has served as Executive Director of the Instituto del Progresso Latino, which provides a multitude of services to Chicago's Latino community including economic and workforce development, adult education, citizenship programs, and youth development; and
WHEREAS, in 2010, Commissioner Salgado opened a charter school, Instituto Health Sciences Career Academy, which offers counseling and support to students beyond graduation through the first two years of postsecondary education or training; and
WHEREAS, in 2011, Commissioner Salgado was recognized by the White House as one of only thirteen Champions of Change nationwide for his strong community leadership and innovative approach to education in the Latino immigrant community; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Salgado was named a MacArthur Fellow by the MacArthur Foundation in 2015, a recipient of what is known as a Genius Grant for his work with Chicago's Latino immigrant community; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Salgado is leaving the Park District to continue his public service as Chancellor of the City Colleges of Chicago.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Chicago Park District Board of Commissioners, and the General Superintendent & CEO, extend our heartfelt gratitude to Commissioner Juan Salgado for his distinguished service and that a suitable copy of this resolu...
