V. Explanation

The Park District maintains more than 500 playgrounds Districtwide. Most of these playgrounds incorporate an engineered wood fiber product which, at the appropriate depth, provides fall attenuation for children using the play equipment.

Maintaining the engineered wood fiber at the proper depth within the playground areas is critical to the Park District’s work to provide safe play environments. This requires the regular addition of engineered wood fiber to the playground areas by the Department of Natural Resources field staff.
